Works for choir

Pieces for choir, from SATB to SSAATTBB. Largely liturgical, heavily inspired by middle English choral composers.

I SING OF A MAIDEN (SATB)

00:00 / 02:15

Notes: A setting of the 15th C. carol "I Sing Of A Maiden". Broadly styled as appropriate to that era, beginning with simple homophony and becoming darker and more mysterious with each verse. Chosen for ORA's "Christmas Gift" initiative and recorded live under Suzi Digby.

leaving the house (SSAATTBB)

00:00 / 04:13

Notes: one of two choral elegies dedicated to my late parents, this one exploring the pain of leaving a now-empty childhood home and all the memories it holds.

st clement's isle (satb)

00:00 / 02:19

Notes: the second choral elegy for my parents. St Clement's Isle is where my I scattered my father's ashes, and my mother's not far away. (also available for quartet)

DESCENDENTEM sicut columbam (satb)

00:00 / 02:44

Notes: a setting of Matthew 3:16-17, composed to span a range of choral orchestration - beginning and ending with simple homophony, with a section of solo, duo and trio voices building to the work's centrepiece of dramatic polyphony. This recording for string quartet.

magnificat & nunc Dimittis (SSATB & organ)

00:00 / 06:06

Notes: my setting of the well-known text for choir and optional organ. Another piece much inspired by Renaissance and middle English composing styles.
